When should I get the Japanese Encephalitis vaccine?
IXIARO is given as a two-dose series. Most people receive the doses 28 days apart, and the final dose should be given at least 1 week before travel. Adults aged 18–65 who are short on time may qualify for an accelerated schedule with the two doses just 7 days apart. Plan ahead so your series is complete before you fly.
Who should consider this vaccine?
The CDC recommends Japanese Encephalitis vaccination for travelers spending a month or more in endemic areas of Asia and the western Pacific during transmission season, as well as shorter-term travelers with significant rural, outdoor, or overnight exposure. Do I need a prescription?
Yes. IXIARO requires a prescription. Have your physician send it to Herold’s Pharmacy and we’ll coordinate the rest, including scheduling both doses.
